Working as a Senior Writer at Priorities USA, I was part of the creative team working the presidential election cycle to reach voters by amplifying Kamala Harris’ impact as VP, contrasting the Harris/Walz policies with the dangerous Trump and MAGA agenda, and show what’s at stake in 2024. 

I got to write a lot of ads that followed these narratives, some of them in English, a lot of them Spanish-first, and all of them centering working people. Here are some of those ads, one of them, titled Together, got a full write-up from the New York Times. Definitely a cycle highlight!

For the 2024 election, Priorities and Somos Votantes ran a $2.5M digital campaign in key battleground states to mobilize Latino voters. These are some of the ads I wrote, including “Coffee Shop Callout” where we leveraged social pressure to get out the vote.

I think it’s important to note we made these ads in both English and Spanish so if you want to see a version that’s not here, let me know and I can share it.

The Human Rights Campaign teamed up with Priorities USA to produce and launch a $2M digital ad campaign to move LGBTQ+ voters in battleground states to support Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.

I wrote this spot that contrasts Harris’ long career fighting for LGBTQ+ rights with Trump’s plan to take us back decades.

And we got some press from The Hill and The Advocate.

We had a few objectives at Priorities during the off-cycle in 2023, including:

• Uplift the Biden-Harris Administration’s achievements which resulted in a few really fun and engaging spots like the one called Lofi Biden–obviously inspired by the many YouTube channels

• Remind voters of the dangerous and unhinged things Trump has said and done

• Strategically and creatively respond to changing news cycles to keep people informed and fight misinformation

During the Republican presidential primaries–when GOP leaders were working hard to outdo each other’s dangerous agendas–my team at Priorities USA wanted to help voters understand how each candidate’s policies would impact the issues that mattered most to everyday people.

So, right before the first Republican debate, we launched a microsite called Meet the GOP where you could take a quiz to see if you know what sets the candidates apart. I’m not spoiling anything when I tell you that they’re all pretty bad.

I did the research and wrote the copy, for the website and for the content we made for our social channels.

As the bilingual copywriter for the 2022 election cycle at Priorities USA, I wrote a lot of ads for state and federal level campaigns in English and Spanish. I also led all of our Spanish language and Latino-focused creative.

Our goals were to move voters in key states, help people know their voting rights, advocate for progressive candidates, and make political ads that didn’t look like political ads.

I think we made some amazing spots and I’m extremely proud of the work.

To support Arizona Senator Mark Kelly’s reelection in 2022, Priorities USA partnered with Senate Majority PAC to run a multimillion dollar bilingual persuasion program with the goal of highlighting Kelly’s commitment to Arizona’s working latino families. 

I wrote the Spanish scripts and digital ads, as well as their English versions.

A fun part of writing scripts in both languages at the same time is I get to play with each language’s cultural nuances so the words may vary from one another but the message stays the same.

“Escuela de Fuerza” was created to help Spanish speaking Special Olympics athletes in the US and Latin America get fit and stay fit while having fun. It’s actually the first Special Olympics’ Spanish language video series. Pretty cool.

I wrote the script for four workout videos and copy for the web page and coaches playbook. It was ideated entirely in Spanish which means we got to add some reggaeton. This campaign features special guests Gleyber Torres of the New York Yankees and Willson Contreras of the Chicago Cubs.

CalFresh Healthy Living is the California Department of Public Health SNAP-Ed brand that helps families be healthier while saving money and time.

I worked on developing and writing their 2020–2021 brand refresh campaign that included out of home, digital, paid media, website, as well as editorial calendars.

The main goal was to show Californians that making healthy habits can be easy, accessible, and fun.

These are some examples of the creative in English and Spanish, and check out the Healthy Swaps at Home or 10 Minute Workouts page which are a couple of my favorite sections we created for the website.

A Dose of Truth is the Illinois Department of Human Services brand that seeks to provide opioid education and harm reduction to help protect communities in the state.

I wrote the paid media for their “Changes” campaign, which focused on the early warning signs of opioid addiction, as well as point of care material about the life-saving medicine naloxone.

It’s Up to Us is San Diego Health and Human Services Agency’s mental health brand. It offers resources with the goal to inspire, reduce stigma, and prevent suicide, focusing on at-risk communities. It also aims to educate people on the dangers of alcohol and drug misuse.

This brand is near and dear to me because San Diego is my home town and I know we’ve all struggled with our mental health since 2020.

I wrote their paid media campaigns and monthly editorial calendars in English and Spanish, and wrote the Spanish scripts and website.

The campaign generated 1 million impressions from health care workers in the month of December 2021 alone.

Colorado Department of Human Services’ Eat Better Together helps families across Colorado stay healthy with tasty recipes, helpful tools, and useful resources.

I was the lead writer for their English and Spanish social media campaigns in 2021, and helped develop their website and recipe finder in Spanish.

What do you need to know about weed? Well, Let’s Talk Cannabis.

I was the lead copywriter for the Illinois Department of Human Services’ campaign called “Let’s Talk Cannabis” focused cannabis use education. We developed the website, a flagship ad, and an editorial calendar.

This is a part of the content we created for expecting and new parents. There’s a lot of stigma and misinformation so we made it simple, creative, and stuck to the facts.

Cubo Bistro was a hip restaurant in the heart of Tijuana’s financial district in Zona Río.

To promote their lunch menu, we developed a campaign to engage and invite people looking for a tasty bite for lunch, literally around the restaurant, and on social media.
